Tall Fescue and Orchard Grass tend to grow faster than your good grass, so when it’s time to mow, the patches are sticking up and are much taller than the rest of the lawn.
How can I control my Tall Fescue or Orchard Grass?
Unfortunately no chemical exists that could kill Tall fescue or Orchard grass without also killing your good grass! Sometimes the best option is to dig out the section with a shovel, taking about 3″-4″ of soil out with the grass, and fill the hole with new dirt and seed. We have noticed over the years that lawn that beginning a routine of properly scheduled fertilizing, along with regular watering and correct mowing heights and practices, will choke out most but not all of the Tall fescue or Orchard grass, but this takes years.
